Ten members of the branch had a guided tour of the city's historic Guildhall above the Stonebow. The Guildhall has been the meeting place of Lincoln City Council from Medieval times to the present and the name, Stonebow, is derived from the Danish word "stennibogi" and indicates a stone archway that visitors entering the city from the south had pass through.
Our tour included the Council Chamber, the Mayor's Robing Room and the prison, which is now used to store the City's gold and silver regalia and other beautiful items. It is also used to keep charters granted by various monarchs from medieval times.
